Back on the water after taking a weeks vacation to Key West. Fished in heavy wind and rain this morning, turning to partly cloudy around mid day. Despite the rain and wind the trout bite was on. Had our 15 trout by 9:00 and then moved on to the Reds. Finished the day one red short of a three man limit with 2 bonus Flounder.
With light winds Saturday morning decided to make a short trip the surf. The trout bite was a little slow using plastic, so switched to bait and picked up a quick limit of solid surf Reds up to 8 pounds. When you get that bend in the rod, you can really tell the strength in these Reds that run the surf.
Made a quick wade Friday morning, this was the first trip of the year using croaker. Quit wading a few trout short of limits, because of the light winds and made the decision to do a state water snapper trip. The bays fishing is in full swing now.
Saturday had to dodge the weather with customers fishing out of the boat. The fishing was a little slower on Saturday. Still managed 5 reds, a few sheepheads and drum.
Sheepshead and oversized Reds are still good at the jetties, with the occasional trout. Limits of Black Drum and Reds have been happening in the bays. The trout are starting to show up in better numbers in the bays. Looks like a good start to the year.
Had a good day on the water Friday. Wet waded throwing top waters and later in the day tails. The fishing tailed off as the outgoing slowed down. Finished the day with a limit of trout, 3 reds, and a flounder.
Fishing is continuing to get better. Had catches of 20 plus reds each day over the weekend, ranging from rats to good keeper fish. The trout fishing is still heating up with good numbers over the weekend. And a few flounder in the mix too.
Had Steve and his brother again on Saturday. The weather conditions changed considerably. We had strong south west winds at around 20-25 mph, this caused us to change plans. Turned out for the best. Got into a good school of Reds when the tide started moving.
It was a beautiful day at the jetties on Friday. Had Limits of Sheepshead and oversized Reds on an incoming tide. The water was so clear and with the high pressure the trout didn't want to cooperate. Here is a picture. Steve with his oversized Red and the slick horizon.
